About these terms

Staydoc is an independent, personal project run from India (“we”, “us”). These terms, together with our privacy policy and cookie policy, are the whole agreement between you and us about the site.

What Staydoc is

  • Staydoc offers free PDF tools that run in your browser. Your files are processed on your device and never uploaded to us.
  • You don't need an account to use the tools. Signing in is optional.
  • We may add, change or remove tools, and the site may sometimes be unavailable. We try to give notice of big changes, but we can't promise it will always be there.
  • If we ever offer paid plans, they will come with their own terms, shown to you before you pay. Nothing on the site today costs money.

Your files and your responsibility

  • Your documents remain yours. We never receive them, so we claim no rights in them.
  • Only work with documents you are allowed to. In particular, unlock, edit, sign or redact a PDF only if it is yours or you have permission, and only remove a password you were given.
  • You are responsible for following the law in how you use the tools and their results, including laws on privacy, copyright, forgery and electronic records.
  • Sign PDF places an image of your signature on the page. It is not a certificate-based digital signature, so check whether the document you are signing needs one, such as a DSC or Aadhaar eSign.

Acceptable use

Please don't:

  • use Staydoc for anything illegal, or to make forged, fraudulent or misleading documents;
  • attack, overload or probe the site or the account service, or try to get around its security or request limits;
  • sign in as someone else, or use another person's account without permission;
  • copy the site to pass it off as your own, or suggest that we endorse something we don't.

Check your results

PDF processing is done by software, on your device, and it isn't perfect. Conversions approximate the original layout, text recognition can misread words, and compression can lower image quality. Before you rely on a result, check it, especially after redacting or masking: make sure nothing you meant to hide is still visible or searchable.

The tools never change the file you open; they make a new one. Keep your originals until you are happy with the result.

Accounts

  • Accounts use Google sign-in, so keep your Google account secure. Accounts are for people aged 18 or over.
  • You can delete your account at any time from its settings.
  • We may suspend or delete an account that breaks these terms. If we close the account service, we will tell account holders first where we reasonably can.

Our content and open-source software

The Staydoc name, design and text are ours. You are welcome to link to any page. The site runs open-source software, such as its PDF, OCR and Office engines, under those projects' own licences, and nothing in these terms limits the rights those licences give you.

No warranty

Staydoc is free and provided “as is” and “as available”. As far as the law allows, we make no promises, express or implied, that it will be error-free, uninterrupted, or fit for a particular purpose, or that results will be accurate.

Limitation of liability

As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of data, profit or business, arising from your use of Staydoc. Our total liability for any claim is limited to ₹1,000. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited, such as for fraud.

Changes to these terms

When these terms change, we update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will tell account holders before it takes effect. If you keep using Staydoc after a change, the new terms apply.

Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts of India have jurisdiction over any dispute. If you live in the EU or UK and use Staydoc as a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of your country and can also bring a claim in your local courts.

If something goes wrong, please talk to us first. Most problems are easier to fix by email than in court.
