PDF tools that work without uploading

Merge, compress, convert, edit, sign and protect PDFs in your browser. Your files are processed on your device and never sent to a server, so there is nothing to delete afterwards.

What uploading means

Most PDF sites send your file to their servers, work on it there and send back the result. They promise to delete it after an hour or two, but while it is there it can be copied, logged or kept by mistake, and you have no way to check.

For a bank statement, an Aadhaar card, a contract or a medical report, that is a real risk to take for work your own device can do.

How these tools avoid it

The engines that read and write PDFs are downloaded to your browser like the page itself, and run there in background workers. Your file is read into the page's memory, processed on your device, and offered back as a download from that memory.

There is no upload address to send a file to: the site is only static files, and its server refuses anything else. The page's security policy also blocks connections to any other site.

Check it yourself

Turn off your Wi-Fi after a page has loaded and run a tool: it still works. Each tool page also has a "Network activity" list of every request since it opened, and the privacy proof page shows what our automated tests recorded for the current release.

Questions

How can a website edit a PDF without uploading it?

Browsers can run full programs, including PDF engines like those in desktop apps, compiled to WebAssembly. This site sends those engines to your browser, and they process your file on your device. Only the engines travel over the network, never your file.

Is it slower than a site that uploads?

Usually it is faster, because nothing has to travel to a server and back. Very large files depend on your device: a phone has less memory than a computer, so the tools set lower size limits there.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes, in Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge on Android and iPhone. Big files and OCR take longer on a phone than on a computer.

Is it free?

Yes. The tools are free to use, with no sign-up, no ads and no watermark added to your files.

Can I check that nothing is uploaded?

Yes. Turn off your connection after the page loads, or watch the Network tab of your browser's developer tools while you use a tool. The privacy proof page explains both, with the captures from our tests.
